Pre-Employment Training in Mining & Heavy Industry

A Pre-Employment Training project (PET) that will support 50 local unemployed people into heavy industry and mining focused pathways and employment while providing local industry with a much needed human resource pool will be delivered in 2012.

The project will run full time over a 20 week period through a combination of classroom and hands on activities.  A number of local businesses including HWE and Transpacific Industries have committed to participating in the project and are keen to maintain a close working relationship throughout the delivery, this will allow them to observe the jobseekers and offer employment opportunities to suitably skilled candidates as they arise. Industry will be involved in the selection and interview process to maximise job seekers opportunities to gain employment at the completion of the project.

The project will be jointly funded and managed by RDA WEP. Funding partners include DEEWR via the Flexible Funding Pool, Job Service Australia providers and Indigenous Employment Programs, DFEEST via Aboriginal Employment Initiatives and South Australia Works, RESA via the IPP funding and Industry Sponsorship.

The training will commence in January 2012 and an information session is scheduled for 10.00am on Friday 2 December 2011 at the RDAWEP Whyalla office.  Interested persons should attend the information session and complete the selection process.
